Thomas Grenier came to Brisbane, Queensland from England in 1842. However he paused at The Bay of Islands New Zealand for a short while. After establishing a business he found that there had been a difference of opinion between the settlers and the long time inhabitants and found it expedient to embark his young family on board a ship and decide on Australia for their future. Thomas owned hotels in South Brisbane and had a large property where Archerfield Aerodrome stands today. He also owned over three hundred acres of what is now known as Fortitude Valley. I have the Grenier family through various name fluctuations in and around Brighton in Sussex UK. The earliest is Phillipe Grynier in the early 1500s in that area. Thomas married Mary Ann Pannell in London and was a grocer before leaving for down under.
